Hello all! I'm pan that's in a relationship with a straight man. I happened to grow up in a pretty conservative country, so in my city at least there was never such thing as a gay bar. We're planning to go to Amsterdam soon and one of the things I'd want to check out is LGBTQ+ bar (was previously a huge fan of overall bars atmosphere). However I was wondering if that would be alright? As in if.

The discourse around straight women in gay bars is, by this point, well nigh centuries old. But that doesn’t mean there can’t be a fresh twist every now and then. As long as we have gay bars.

But why do straight cisgender women go to gay bars in the first place? Through qualitative semi-structured interviews, I analyze women’s motivations for frequenting gay bars in Canada and the United States.

As long as they’re not bothering anyone, cishet people can absolutely go to LGBT bars with queer friends or partners. “Straight-passing” relationships are still perfectly valid queer relationships (because you’re queer).
